From striped to solid and intensely bright red, that is the Gala MGCP, also known as the Brilliant Gala. The fruit coloring of the Brilliant Gala MGCP is stable, early, timely, and good. Compared to the Gala Schniga® SchniCo, the Gala MGCP can be picked about 5 days earlier. Compared to the Gala Mitchgla, it can be picked 7 to 10 days earlier.

The apples of the Gala MGCP* / Brilliant Gala are also characterized by their good fruit shape. For a Gala, the Gala MGCP has a slightly smaller calyx cavity and the fruit stalks are not (too) long.

The apples can be picked both partially striped and with a full blush, which is a huge advantage of the Gala MGCP. The MGCP apple colors early and well, even when hanging in the shadow, with the blush becoming increasingly closed and even towards harvest time. The edge of the blush and the shadow side of the Brilliant Gala apple often remain somewhat striped or speckled. The background color usually remains somewhat visible. This gives the Gala MGCP apple a fresh and attractive appearance.

The fruits ripen and color relatively quickly. The harvest time for Gala MGCP in Northwest Europe is from late August to the first week of September. Gala MGCP apples are harvested in a maximum of two rounds. The Gala MGCP apple does not differ in taste from other Gala apples. The apple is crisp, juicy, and sweet. The sugar content averages around 13 Brix.

The Gala MGCP originates from Nederweert, the Netherlands. The Gala MGCP is a mutant of the Kidd’s D-8. The Gala MGCP is a stable mutant and has few to no (reverse) mutating fruits.

In 2025, Gala MGCP was granted Community plant variety rights (European Union). Fruit tree nursery Morren is a licensee and grows Gala MGCP trees, using certified grafts and/or budwood from the Vermeerderingstuinen as a basis. The Brilliant Gala logo is a registered trademark.
